چکیده

Abstract. In this paper, we investigate questions arising in [89]. Pseudo causal models connecting magnitudes and waiting times are consider, through generalized regression. We do use conditional model (magnitude given previous waiting time, and conversely) as an extension to joint distribution model described in [77]. On the one hand, we fit a Pareto distribution for earthquake magnitudes, where the tail index is a function of waiting time following previous earthquake; on the other hand, waiting times are modeled using a Gamma or a Weibull distribution, where parameters are function of the magnitude of the previous earthquake. We use those two models, alternatively, to generate the dynamics of earthquake occurrence, and to estimate the probability of occurrence of several earthquakes within a year, or a decade.

Statistical Mechanics Approaches to the Modeling of Nonlinear Earthquake Physics

We discuss the problem of earthquake forecasting in the context of new models for the dynamics based on statistical physics. Here we focus on new, topologically realistic system-level approaches to the modeling of earthquake faults. We show that the frictional failure physics of earthquakes in these complex, topologically realistic models leads to self-organization of the statistical dynamics, ...

How Fast is Rupture during an Earthquake ? New Insights from the 1999 Turkey Earthquakes

We report that during the two devastating 1999 earthquakes in Turkey, rupture propagated over a large part of the nearly 200km long fault zone at supershear speed approaching 5km/s. We present observations and modeling which confirm the original inference of supershear rupture during the Izmit earthquake and we show that supershear upture also occurred during the Diizce earthquake. We show that...

Earthquake Rescue Mission Modeling Based on Multi- Agent

In order to better research the role helicopter played in the earthquake rescue, a helicopter earthquake rescue mission modeling method based on multi-agent was proposed. The elements of the earthquake environment modeling were described. Typical helicopter rescue missions in earthquake relief were divided into three basic types, and the mission flow was carded. The division and function of age...

Notes on modeling earthquake dynamics with the spectral element method

We provide a detailed presentation and discussion of a numerical modeling technique for earthquake dynamics based on the spectral element method. The problem of dynamic frictional contact along slip interfaces in elastic domains is formulated in a hybrid variational form, with Lagrange multipliers associated to the fault tractions. The problem is discretized in space by a spectral element metho...
